Keeper of the light by Diane Chamberlain
Book Number:RC 36072 3 sound cassettes :
Dr. Olivia Simon's husband, Paul, has admitted to being infatuated with
Annie O'Neill, a woman with an almost saintlike reputation. After Annie dies
on Olivia's operating table, Paul walks out on Olivia. To learn what it was
about Annie that caused Paul to love her, Olivia mingles with Annie's
admirers and, unexpectedly, with her widowed husband. A surprising
confession alters Annie's image. Strong language and explicit descriptions
of sex.
This is the third book of Chamberlain's that I've read. I really enjoy her
work and will continue to read her books. The people in this story circle
around a lighthouse in the Outerbanks of North Carolina and around each
other. Trying to save the historical lighthouse, trying to save marriages
and relationships with children and discovering that sometimes they are
powerless to do either. Annie's actions from the past have drastic effects
on those she leaves behind. This one keeps you hanging right up until the
end. Beautiful descriptions of the Outerbanks area are all throughout the
story. Lighthouse, love, storms, betrayal, friendship and lies weave a
terrific tale. A 5 out of 5.
Happy Reading,
Carla/TexasRed

This is a great book, if you enjoy reading about family relationships. Sue Miller and Anne Beattie fans, for instance, may like it.

The whole trilogy is available on Bookshare, btw. Excellent scans--I did them myself. *grin* I liked this first book, and the third "Her Mother's Shadow" best, but I thought the second book was a bit dull. The third, while still a great story, was a little too preachy for my liking, in some places (Really! Get off Annie's case already, she's been dead a long time!) . I will have to reread in order to post a better review, it's been five years since I read these, I think!

I used to really like this author in general, but in recent years she seems to have become too moralistic for my taste.
